Jennifer Kate Hudson [born September 12th 1981 in Chicago, Illinois] is an American actress, singer and model. She first gained notice as one of the finalists on the third season of the Fox television series American Idol. She went on to star as Effie White in the 2006 motion picture adaptation of the musical Dreamgirls for which she won numerous awards including an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA and a SAG Award. She cites Whitney Houston as her musical and movie influence, as well as Aretha Franklin.

The 2008 self-titled debut album of Jennifer Kate Hudson reflects her high-powered soulful style voice which is transcendent and timeless. Guests features on the album include Fantasia on 'I'm His Only Woman', Ludacris on 'Pocketbook', plus the highlights version of 'And I am Telling You I'm Not Going' from Dreamgirls. The first single to be released from the album was 'Spotlight' which was written and co-produced by Ne-Yo and produced by Stargate. The video has reached No.1 on the TRL Voting Countdown and debuted at No.14 on the VH1 Top 20 Countdown on September 27th 2008.
